Photozone, 2022

Photograph on vinyl, 10x8 ft

Photozone is an ongoing project that started before the full scale war, when the idea was to create photozones of the places that are forbidden to take pictures of (such as raves or military units). With the beginning of the full scale war a new law banned photography in the active war zones to avoid helping attackers to correct the fire through the information published on social media. Zaiats cynically creates the photozone stage using a photo taken by Volodymyr Prylutskyi (*1999, Donetsk, Ukraine) during his visit to Kharkiv. The photo captures the city's largest residential area called Saltivka that has been relentlessly bombarded by the Russians. By creating an immersive photo poligon Zaiats offers visitors to take a selfie or film a video and also makes reference on one of the mediums which war museums oftenly use.
